Group Descriptions
Mini Olympians: The Mini Olympians is a program geared for swimmers 5 years of age who are comfortable swimming 25m, are able to float and blow bubbles. The emphasis is on swimming basics in the water; kicking, gliding, breathing. All competitive strokes and skills are offered and taught but in a way that younger swimmers will understand. Practice times are 45 minutes in length: 15 minutes dry and 30 minutes in the pool. Jr. Olympians: Junior Olympians is an opportunity for young swimmers to learn swimming skills! Children between 6-7 years who are comfortable swimming 25m and can float on front and back and swim 25m. Emphasis is on the competitive swimming skills, dive, turns, fly, back, breast and free strokes. Each child receives a progress card and once each level is acheived (I, II and III) a sticker will be given out. Should children enjoy this they can join the Olympic Way program to participate further in competitive swimming.
Olympic Way: The Olympic Way program is designated to introduce competitive swimming to youngsters ages 6-10. New participants should have progressed to at least AquaQuest Level 5 (or equivalent) or have the ability to swim approximately 25 meters. Emphasis is on acquiring skills in the four competitive strokes - butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle - with opportunities for competition at novice meets. Each child progresses through the program of stroke instruction, correction, and evaluation at his/her own rate. The workout schedule permits participants to continue with other community, school, and home activities.
Regional Group: This group is intended to have continued emphasis on stroke development for all events. Swimmers will also be taught proper training techniques for aerobic and anaerobic work, as well as a dryland and flexibility program. Swim meet and practice attendance is required. This particular group is a transition from Olympic Way Group to Provincial Group. Dryland and flexibility training are also introduced.
Stroke Improvement and Conditioning: This program is intended for swimmers 11-17yrs. who wish to further their technical skills and keep/get fit and have fun. Whether you are a summer swimmer, high school swimmer, triathlete, open water swimmer or a person who wants to prepare for life saving classes this program could work for you. Competitions are offered depending upon commitment. Ability to swim 100m(4 lengths) is required.
Provincial Group: This group teaches skill development through enhanced training. This group is focuses on the needs of provincial qualifiers to Youth and Junior National Level athletes. Swim meet attendance is required. Traveling to compete within B.C., Canada and the USA occurs. Dryland and flexibility programs are included
National Group: National Group is designed for swimmers who have demonstrated the ability and commitment to train at a high level. The training schedule, dryland and flexibility program are intensive and very important. Swim meets attendance is required and occur throughout B.C., Canada, and U.S.A
